While the name came from India, the modern catamaran came from the South Pacific. English visitors applied the Tamil name Catamaran to the swift, stable sail and paddle boats made out of two widely separated logs used by Polynesian natives.
Around 1,890s in America and Europe, the catamaran began to be noticeable as a pleasure craft. It was until the late 1950s and by the help of new light weight materials, when the catamarans began to gain the respect they deserved.
Power catamarans at first had a lack of style; until today that YachtCat is now setting the standards on design, performance and truly comfort.
