Performance and Value.
The YachtCat 31 Stands Out in a class by itself.

Power catamaran’s narrow hulls reduce drag and provide both a higher top speed and better range. In addition, cats can use smaller engines to reach the same speeds as their mono-hull counterparts, which results in better fuel economy and a greater cruising range.  This extended cruising range is part of what makes a power cat, and specifically the YachtCat Cat 31 an outstanding choice for offshore adventures. With its greater fuel economy and stability, you can take the Cat 31 to locations you wouldn’t normally take a mono-hull of the same size.

For those of you who have friends or acquaintances who are not as steady or comfortable on a boat, this is the vessel for you. The smooth, stable platform gives each passenger and the operator complete confidence in its ability to provide a ride that is comfortable and allows everyone to focus on the company and the environment around them.

The concept of the YachtCat 31 came as a result of the extensive market research conducted by YachtCat as an ongoing program to engineer durable, stable boats for use by serious boating enthusiasts including divers and sport fishermen. Always aware of the competition, the designers and naval architects at YachtCat spend considerable time at boat shows worldwide studying other boat designs and looking for changes within the industry.

YachtCat uses time tested boat building techniques combined with cutting edge technology that resulted in one of the strongest hulls found on any power catamaran on the market, the YachtCat 31 is built in a state of the art yard in Columbia.

With gracefully flowing hull lines from stem to stern, one look at the YachtCat 31 tells the story of this capable vessel. The Cat 31 has over nine feet of freeboard that allows passengers and crew to remain dry and comfortable, even at high speed in choppy seas.

Enough can’t be said about the incredible value built into the YachtCat 31.  The quality, attention to detail and overall durability of this vessel are second to none.  The YachtCat 31 is a capable, seaworthy vessel that would be an ideal fit for any serious offshore adventurer.

The YachtCat 31’s instrument panel comes with high quality waterproof switches and gauges as well as a stainless steel, hydraulically operated wheel. The YachtCat 31 offers great visibility because of its hull design and high free board.   The center console is ideally located to make the most efficient use of deck space for fishing or dive operations.  The deck area is laid out in such a way as to make one feel as though they are on a much larger boat.  I found that the YachtCat 31 could comfortably seat up to eighteen divers and all their gear in certain configurations.

The YachtCat 31 came standard with an eight foot canvas cover that keeps all of your guests very comfortable and out of the harmful sun. On top of the top is a pad that will allow three to four of your guests to lay out and have a better view of the environment and plenty of room to store kayaks for your trip as well. A below deck marine head and shower with more than six feet of head space will make all of your guests comfortable when using the head or rinsing off in the shower after a swim or a dive. There is plenty of fresh water on board with the 100 gallon freshwater system and shower. Located on the aft are two live-wells that also serve as rinse stations along with a sink to clean and wash fish or rinse your dive gear. The YachtCat 31 offers abundant below and above deck gear storage including accessories like aluminum rod holders, stainless steel dive ladder and windlass.  Most impressive on deck is the built in storage space and comfort that allows guests to bring lots of gear and maintain a very comfortable journey.

After an extended sea trial around St Thomas, the YachtCat 31 proved to be a dry and stable ride that handled exceptionally in strong, off-shore winds. The YachtCat 31 is a true hard-use vessel that stood up to the harsh and often unpredictable waters off St. Thomas offshore environment.  The YachtCat 31 is an outstanding boat for west coast offshore waters because the cat hull gives you a very soft yet stable ride in high seas.  Despite the conditions we faced with the 5 foot seas and the 30mph winds all aboard stayed dry and comfortable.

Always looking for the best arrangements, YachtCat has partnered with Yamaha to provide engines that will run in all conditions and are some of the most efficient in the industry.  With the supplied Yamaha 150 HP four-strokes, the YachtCat 31 performance was out of this world!  Even in the conditions the YachtCat cruised comfortably at 37 knots.  With the twin Yamaha’s we could have stayed out all day cruising around with a range of over 300 miles.

The YachtCat 31 would be a wise choice for any boating enthusiast.  The configuration with two chairs near the platform allow saltwater sportsman looking for a rugged, well built, yet reasonably priced, platform for offshore adventures.  I found the Cat 31 to be an extremely seaworthy vessel that provided outstanding performance delivered in a roomy, well engineered package.  This is an ideal vessel for those looking to bring in lots of fish or make many dives in great comfort.  Setting up a table on deck also allows you to enjoy the sunset with a nice bottle of wine and some Hors d'œuvres with friends and people you want to spend some true quality time with.

After being on hundreds of different vessels and taking boats all over the world, the bottom line is that I am very impressed with this vessel, what it has to offer.  I hope that you will take the time to come out and see the impressive YachtCat 31 (or to arrange a sea trial for yourself).

The most impressive part of the YachtCat 31 is the owner and founder of the company Jorge Celis. His vision, determination, business understanding and ability to capture the true needs of a boater in a variety of capacities has made this vessel one that will sell and be talked about by everyone in the industry. He recently announced that the company is in production on its YachtCat 56 and the YachtCat 120. I can’t wait to get behind the helm of these two beauties and see what surprises he has in store for the boater. He is a true rising star in the boating world.
